This year members of the JIMF team will be attending Goodwood 73 to promote our own festival and spread the word about Jersey. Below is an extract from Goodwood 73’s website and this years event.
The Goodwood Members’ Meeting is a new style of motor racing event, conceived by Lord March to recreate the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC Members’ Meetings held ‘in period’ at Goodwood through the 1950s and 1960s.
The new event is run under the auspices of the Goodwood Road Racing Club, but you don’t have to be a Member to enjoy the action – a limited quantity of tickets is available to non-members, and all motorsports enthusiasts are welcome.
The 73rd Members’ Meeting in 2015 promises the spectacle of F1 cars from the 1970s, the biggest collection of McLaren F1 GTRs ever assembled, and a group of wild 250mph Group C Le Mans cars all taking to the track.
We’ll also be hosting the return of the marvellous Group 1 ‘tin-tops’ from the 1970s and early 1980s that were such crowd-pleasers at the 72nd Members’ Meeting held last year.
In spite of its roots and a world class field of historic racing cars and drivers, this is no Revival-style carnival of dressing up and pageantry.
Instead, the Members’ Meeting dress code is more relaxed – for details on this, see our FAQs – with the emphasis on the cars, the racing, and a sense of inclusiveness and ‘access all areas’ for Goodwood Members, their guests and like-minded enthusiasts.
In 2014, the 72nd Members’ Meeting witnessed Goodwood’s biggest ever party on the Saturday night, featuring street theatre acts, a steam fair, music, fireworks and refreshments late into the night.
Lord March and the team have already promised to ‘raise the bar even higher’ for the 73rd Members’ Meeting in 2015 – for more details on this incredible spectacle, see our Party page.
The Sunday of the Members’ Meeting features the lion’s share of the competitive racing, giving the assembled enthusiasts a chance to see rare, historic cars going hell for leather on the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Secure your ticket now to make sure that you are there to enjoy it all in March 2015.
